FYCPA Policy 2024

Payment

All lessons are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Lesson times/dates will follow the Victorian public school dates, and you will be invoiced at the end of each term.

Lessons may be available over the holiday period, but you will have to organise this individually with your teacher.

Other financial arrangements can be accommodated. Please contact the academy to discuss alternative options.

Cancellations and rescheduling

Any cancellation of a lesson must be made in writing (via SMS/email). Lessons can be rescheduled/rolled over if the teacher is notified 24 hours before the scheduled lesson. Lessons are forfeited if cancelled after this time and you will be billed.

Rescheduling lessons within the week is preferred for continuity’s sake, however this cannot always be accommodated by the student/teacher. If rescheduling is not feasible, the lesson will roll over, thus crediting an additional lesson.

Equipment - personal

It is expected that students buy all materials as prescribed by their teacher. All efforts are made to keep the cost of these materials to a minimum. It is mandatory for every student enrolled in the academy to have:

At least one pair of drumsticks/mallets

A snare drum OR practice pad

An A4 display book for keeping loose sheets

These materials can be bought through the academy (the academy sources the most economical options and does NOT add a premium) or sourced externally.

Some additional equipment can be borrowed/hired from the academy (mallets, instruments etc.). Equipment must be returned within the agreed time. Any damage will have to be paid for by the student/student’s parents.

Please label all items you own.

Equipment in the space

It is expected that students will have care and respect for all instruments owned by the academy and on campus. Any damaged that is caused by neglect or inappropriate behaviour will result in the student paying for damages incurred.

The academy venue is a shared space and therefore care must be taken to not touch instruments or gear that do not belong to the academy. You must not touch any brass instruments present.

Respect and behaviour

It is expected that respect will be had by all for the teachers, guest artists, students and for each other.

Good behaviour is expected. If a student or parent is not respectful during a lesson or otherwise, a warning will be given. Any further disrespect or bad behaviour will result in cancellations of lessons, with no refund given.

Safety

Students are expected to wear enclosed shoes to lessons and ensembles. This allows students to not only play their instrument properly, but avoids injury in a space with many heavy instruments.

Students are expected to own a pair of earplugs and bring them to lessons.

Students are taught which instruments are appropriate to use and move, and which are not. Teacher’s instructions must be adhered to when moving equipment.

T-shirts, uniform and presentation

Ensemble students are expected to buy and wear the academy T-shirt for performances.

If a student grows out of their T-shirt, they are expected to buy a new one. Donated T-shirts are subject to availability.

Please keep T-shirts washed (inside out) and clean for good performance presentation. Students are expected to own black pants or black jeans, and black shoes for performances.

Online lessons

Students are expected to read and sign the privacy policy for online lessons. Please find the Privacy Policy document for more information.

Covid-19

All current Covid-19 restrictions and requirements set out by the Victorian Government must be adhered to.

Please sanitise and wash hands whenever possible and do not attend the academy if you are sick.
